Does the recent heat wave in NYC, leave you thirsty? Did you know if you don’t drink enough water, you could become dehydrated? Dehydration can be severe and cause cases of dizziness, confusion, and even seizures.
WATER makes up about 60% of your total body weight and supports all your bodily functions. From flushing toxins out of the organs to assisting with the digestion of food, it’s all working to keep your body functioning properly. That’s why it’s so important for us to drink ENOUGH WATER on daily basis.
How Much Water?
WELL, you may have heard 8 glasses of water daily is sufficient but that’s simply NOT TRUE. Unfortunately, there is NO one-size fit all approach for everyone. Everybody’s body is different and how much water you may need on a daily will vary based on your lifestyle, size, exercise routine, etc. A better way determine what your daily intake should be is to divide your body weight by 2 and that number in ounces should be your “GO-TO” minimum goal! For example, if you weigh 150lbs, divide that by 2, it equals 75 (150lbs /2 = 75.). Therefore, 75 ounces of water daily should be your goal. However, if you exercise and/or sweat a lot, you’ll need to replenish that fluid. In which case, my suggestion would be to drink an additional 12-24 ounces of water to your base number.
Water and Weight loss
I’m sure everyone has heard that drinking more water can help you to lose weight. Well, this is not always true. Unfortunately, for someone that may be well hydrated and drinks plenty of water already, probably won’t see a huge difference by drinking more. But, if you are someone that doesn’t drink enough water, you are mostly likely dehydrated and incorporating more water into your diet could help.
Hungry or Thirsty?
It is not easy to determine the difference between being hungry or thirsty and this could be another sign of dehydration. If you’re going through your day feeling famished – grab a bottle of water before grabbing a snack.
In addition, many studies have proven that drinking a glass of water before any meal will help you to eat less and feel more full. On average, people who drink a glass of water before a meal are said to consume up to 75 calories fewer at each sitting. While that may not sound like a lot, it all adds up and every little bit helps!
Water and your Metabolism
Did you know? Water BOOSTS your metabolism! Your metabolism is made up of many chemical reactions that are taking place in your body. By keeping yourself well hydrated, those chemical reactions will keep running along quite efficiently especially your metabolism.
BOTTOM LINE… DRINK MORE WATER & STAY HYDRATED – YOUR BODY WILL THANK YOU!
